Norman D. Means, MD received his A.B. in the Biological Sciences from the University of
Chicago, and is a 1993 graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Means did an internship in General Surgery at the University of
Tennessee, which included formal training in cosmetic and reconstructive Plastic Surgery. He subsequently completed a residency in Clinical and Anatomic
Pathology at the University of Tennessee.
Dr. Means then went on to pursue a Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking at theUniversity of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He then completed the Duke University Family MedicineResidency in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Dr. Means arrived in Alaska to serve as a physician for the town of Cordova and for the past five years has been in private practice in the
Anchorage area.
In his varied career, Dr. Means has had several thousand hours experience in emergency medicine, as well as extensive inpatient and outpatient
medical practice. He is licensed in 5 states and has been in practice since1994. Dr. Means is a published medical researcher, and has presented his research at several national medical meetings. He holds 3 board certifications, in Family Medicine, Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology, and is Board-eligible in Transfusion Medicine and Blood Banking. In 2008, Dr. Means was elected a Fellow of the American College of Pathology.
Dr. Means is also proud to serve Alaskans as the Medical and Laboratory Director for the Blood Bank of Alaska.
He has been married for 19 years and has 4 children.
